Jero García , known for his career in the ring, shared in a chat with Jordi Wild how boxing helped him get his life back on track. Before focusing on this sport, he was already competing in kickboxing and full contact. The arrival of his daughter changed his mindset, and he decided to leave unhealthy habits behind. “ I quit smoking, went on a diet, and started listening to my coaches ,” he confessed. It was then that he took up the sport with true discipline.
For Jero García , the ring was not only a place of physical combat, but also a mental refuge. “ While I was boxing, I had goals, and therefore I knew what my path was ,” he explained. His motivation was psychological , not economic: he needed to stay focused. That perseverance led him to the title of Spanish champion . Through daily effort, sport allowed him to leave behind a period of instability and build a new identity.
Although he initially disliked the idea of teaching, he discovered that giving classes could be transformative. “ I was very shy, but I had no choice, ” he admitted. He quickly attracted many students and realized that sport also changes lives outside the ring . Supported by his family, he devoted himself to various gyms. With the backing of a foundation , he founded the Luche Boxing School , where he began working with vulnerable youth.
His personal story shaped his social calling. He was one of the first children served by La Coma , an association that helps at-risk children. Years later, he arranged sports scholarships for underprivileged children and opened a gym for them. " I taught the first boxing classes for children in Spain ," he said. Today, he remains committed to his work, convinced that real change only happens when it comes from within .
